Lost my game tracking sheet, ruined my whole campaign night

Last Friday I showed up to host our weekly D&D session and realized I left my binder with 8 sessions of NPC notes and quest flags at work. I tried to wing it but forget half the plot threads and two players got mad that their side quests vanished. Has anyone else lost their prep notes and had to rebuild mid-game, what did you do to salvage it?
