Rant: Paid $75 for a bonus hole 'stinger' flag and it was just a bent pin
Club near Tulsa added a 19th hole last spring. They sold it hard, said it was a real test for closing out matches. I figured it was just a gimmick, pin stuck in the middle of a pasture. First time I played it, the entire green had a false front that kicked everything into a bunker. My buddy birdied it with a putter from 20 feet. I wrote it off as luck. Then I went back last month on a normal Tuesday with nobody behind me. Tried three different lines, all funneled to the same back-left shelf. That pin placement was deliberate, not random. I asked the pro shop about it, guy said they reposition it every week but keep that shelf as a feature. Now I think the whole thing is legit. You guys got a bonus hole that actually earns its spot or is it just a long putt with extra steps?

Read a piece in a golf magazine last year about how some courses are adding these gimmick holes to squeeze out extra money. Most of them are trash, just a way to sell you a drink at the turn. But what you're describing sounds like they actually built something with real character. That false front and the shelf thing, that's not an accident. A course near me did something similar, charged $50 for a par 3 over a pond, but it was just a flat green with no danger. Total waste. Your pro shop guy saying they keep that shelf as a feature tells you they care about the design, not just the cash grab. I'd say play it a few more times before you judge it completely. Sometimes a hole that looks cheap at first reveals its layers, like a good putt that breaks twice.
