My book club called my favorite novel 'mid' and I almost quit

Our book club picks a classic every January, and this year it was Something by someone famous, I won't name drop since half the group already hated it. I went in ready to defend it as this masterpiece, but one member, a retired librarian named Diane, said my take was too surface level. She pointed out I kept praising the plot twists when the real point was how the narrator lies to themselves, and honestly she was right. I reread it with that lens and found like 15 details I'd completely missed, things that change the whole ending. Now I feel dumb for 3 years of telling people it was just a gripping story. Has anyone else gotten a critique that made them totally redo their opinion on a book they loved?
