Just finished my first full leather binding and it's not perfect but I'm pumped

I finally got around to binding that old copy of Leaves of Grass I've had sitting around for 2 years. Took me about 6 hours over three nights to get the cover on and the endbands sewn. I kept messing up the turn-ins on the corners, one of them is a little bunched up but honestly it gives it character. Anyone else feel like their first few projects look better from a distance?

Oh man, my first binding looked like it lost a fight with a staple gun. Up close it's a disaster, but from across the room? Total masterpiece.

There's something about handmade stuff where the little flaws end up being the best part. It's like how homemade bread tastes better when it's lopsided (nobody wants the perfectly uniform grocery store loaf).

That lopsided bread comparison is spot on. The little imperfections are what make something feel real and personal. It's like when you see a handmade mug with a slightly crooked handle, it just has more soul than a machine-made one. Every bump and uneven stitch tells a story.
