My bone folder melted after 20 years, cheap replacement won me over

I've been using the same cow bone folder since I started binding back in 2004, got it from a garage sale in Portland for $2. Last month it snapped clean in half while I was pressing a spine on a thick text block. I grumbled and ordered a $15 plastic one from Amazon just to get by, figured it would be junk. Three weeks in and honestly the slick edge glides better on book cloth than my old bone ever did, no drag at all. Anyone else made the switch to a synthetic folder and never looked back, or am I just lucky with this one?

Have you ever checked what the plastic one is actually made of? Some of those cheap ones are delrin or nylon, not just basic poly, and that slickness you're feeling might be a whole different friction thing than bone ever was.
