That moment I realized I was gluing grain direction wrong for 3 years

I was trimming a text block last month and noticed my covers kept warping after a week. Then a guy at the local craft store pointed out I was gluing the paper grain perpendicular to the spine every time. Anyone else have a dumb beginner mistake that took way too long to figure out?

Right? That grain direction stuff is basically bookbinding's hidden trap for beginners.

Funny how that works, @the_thomas. It's like when you realize you've been folding laundry the hard way for years, or putting ketchup on the wrong side of the burger. Just one of those things that feels obvious once you finally get it.
