Greenhouse misting timer comparison, cheap mechanical vs smart wifi unit
I run a small backyard greenhouse outside Nashville, maybe 200 square feet, and last spring I switched from a $20 mechanical dial timer to a $60 wifi smart plug for my misting system. The mechanical one was supposed to do 15 minute intervals but it drifted badly, I caught my ferns getting crispy after 3 days of missed cycles. The smart plug lets me set exact durations down to the second, plus I can check the humidity from my phone without walking out there. What really sold me was the logging feature, I noticed my misting needed to run 30% longer on windy days, something I never would have caught with the dial. Downside is the wifi setup can be finicky, my router is on the far side of the house and I had to add a $25 extender. Has anyone else compared cheap timers to app controlled ones for propagation benches, or am I overthinking this for just seedlings?
