I left a fern in my dark hallway for 3 weeks and it actually put out new fronds

Moved my Boston fern to a spot with maybe 20 minutes of indirect light a day while painting the living room in May, and it grew two new fronds instead of dropping leaves. Do ferns just handle low light better than the care tags say, or did I get lucky with this one?
