Spent $180 on a fancy grow light for my apartment, it cooked my herbs

I bought this expensive LED panel online after reading all the hype, set it up over my basil and mint in my kitchen in Portland. Followed the manual's distance guide exactly, but within 3 weeks the leaves turned crispy and pale brown, just fried them. Turns out the recommended settings were for a greenhouse, not a tiny 4x5 foot kitchen nook. Has anyone else lost a whole herb setup to one of those strong grow lights? What distance actually works for you?
