I finally spoke against the thin brick craze in our downtown project.
All the other trades think thin bricks save time, but I've seen them fail in damp spots. The library addition last spring had moisture issues behind the veneer within months.

Good on you for speaking up when you've seen it fail" - that's the thing, it's not just about seeing it fail yourself. My buddy runs a small restoration crew and he told me about a house they worked on last fall. Thin brick on the whole back wall. The homeowner kept getting moldy drywall in the basement for like a year before they figured out the veneer was trapping water behind it. My buddy said the brick was practically falling off in sheets by the time they got in there. The whole wall had to be torn down and rebuilt with real brick. Cost the guy like triple what he would have paid to just do it right the first time.

That library example you gave says it all. People forget that any moisture problem becomes a major fix once the veneer is up. Good on you for speaking up when you've seen it fail.

Watched a whole wall rot from one small leak behind stone cladding.
