Old high school gym still has the same brick arches after 40 years

Drove past my old high school in Columbus last week and the exterior brick arches are still solid, saw my initials in one of the weep holes from 1986. Makes me wonder how many of those 2,000 bricks I laid during that summer side job are still holding up. Anybody else ever go back and check their old jobs decades later?

I read somewhere that most brick from the 80s was made to last about 50 years, so your arches are right at that edge. It's wild to think your initials are still in that weep hole, like a little time capsule nobody else knows about. I bet the school has no clue who "DT" is, but you know exactly which summer that was. The way those arches have held up through all those Ohio winters says a lot about the guys who mixed that mortar. Did you ever wonder if the newer sections of the school are already showing cracks while your old walls are still straight?
