Old timer convinced me to stop using plastic corner beads on Friday

I had a wall crack right down the bead joint last Tuesday on a job in Cleveland, and when I pulled it off the corner was all rusted and swollen. The guy next door showed me how to fold a galvanized bead and now I'm wondering why I ever bothered with the plastic stuff - has anyone else had trouble with those things splitting?

And that's exactly what happened to me with a set of trim nails I got from a gas station once.

Galvanized beads can rust too if you nick them with your knife.
