Saw a mason at the county fair demo and now I get it
Went to the state fair last weekend and watched a guy lay a herringbone pattern in about 20 minutes, real clean work. I always thought speed meant sloppy, but he showed me the trick is in the bed depth, not rushing. Anyone else pick up a better habit from watching someone else on a job?

The bed depth thing is so overlooked, that's the real gold right there. I learned the same way watching a tile guy set a floor, once you get the mud right the pattern just falls into place and you're not fighting it.
