inVent: I dropped $80 on a fancy digital probe thermometer that crapped out halfway through my first overnight brisket cook.
My first thermometer died during a pork shoulder and I felt like a detective trying to solve a mystery with no clues. That midnight panic is the worst. I ended up going with the same one mary_nelson71 mentioned, and it hasn't let me down yet. It's kind of funny how we spend all this money just to get a good night's sleep, isn't it? I guess the real lesson is that a reliable tool is worth way more than its price tag when your dinner depends on it.

inBought a $120 'idea generator' book that was just a list of random words
Oof, that's brutal. You basically bought a phone book for lonely nouns. "Clock." Page turn. "Whisper." Revolutionary. For that price it should at least give you two words together. Like "angry whisper" or "broken clock." My cat walking on a keyboard could generate better content.

inHeard a kid at the con say 'I just watch the clips on YouTube, why bother with the whole show?'... felt weird, man.
I mean it's just a tv show lol. People can watch however they want.

inMy buddy sent me a fake video of our old coach last week and I totally fell for it
Wow, that's honestly scary how convincing that sounds! I was just reading an article about how these fakes are everywhere now, even in politics. @the_paul is right, the tools are way too easy to get, and it's getting hard to trust anything. I haven't been pranked like that yet, but I'd probably fall for it too. Makes me want to just stop clicking on videos from friends.

inThe great torque wrench debate: do you really need to re-calibrate every year?
Remember when Mike's torque wrench failed right after calibration?
