The trim guy from the Des Moines job asked why I still cut miters with a speed square, and it's been bugging me for 2 weeks
He pulled out his miter saw and knocked out 14 outside corners while I was still marking my third, and now I'm wondering if I've been stubbornly holding onto the old way just because it's what I learned first, so what's the tool you resisted for way too long before finally giving in?
Figure out what actually cost you the time first. Was it the marking, the cutting, or walking back and forth to check the fit? I ask because a speed square can be plenty fast if the stock is already dead straight and you're just slicing. Were his 14 corners on the same material and same wall, or was he working something totally different where the saw just made more sense?
