Spent $400 on a laser level and it's the best tool I ever bought
I was doing a big chimney rebuild last fall and my old string lines just weren't cutting it for keeping everything plumb over that height. I bit the bullet and got a DeWalt laser level. The first day I used it, I shaved at least two hours off the job and the lines were perfect. It paid for itself on that single project by saving me from a single course of tear-out. I can't believe I worked without one for ten years. What's the one tool you guys bought that you now can't live without?

Gotta disagree on this one. A good string line and a sharp eye have never failed me. Lasers are just another battery to worry about on site, and they can be finicky in bright sun. That money would have gone straight into my pocket or a better saw blade.

My old foreman swore by string lines until he misjudged a slope by three inches.

My dad's crew lost a whole day fixing a two-inch laser mistake. Sean854 has a point about batteries, but that sting is real.
