Hostel booking sites are lying about 'free cancellation' and it cost me 120 bucks
Last month I booked a hostel in Lisbon through one of those big booking sites because it said free cancellation until 48 hours before. My plans shifted when a friend's wedding got moved up, so I cancelled 3 days ahead. They still charged me, saying the hostel had its own policy that overrode the site. I called the hostel direct and they said they never even got my booking until the day of, so the site pocketed my money and blamed them. Now I only book direct through hostel websites or use the site just to check prices then go direct. Anyone else get burned by booking site cancellation policies that vanish when you actually need them?
