Scored a $9 hostel bed in Lisbon because I walked in at 11pm instead of booking online
Last month I showed up in Lisbon with no room booked and every hostel site wanted $35+. I walked into a small place near Rossio at 11pm, and the guy at the desk offered me a bed for 9 euros cash because it was late and the room was half empty. Same thing happened in Porto two nights later, 12 euros. Booking same day in person near the train station beat every app I checked by 20 bucks or more. Has anyone else had luck just walking up to hostels late at night instead of reserving ahead?

Friend did that in Rome, got a bed for 10 euros.
