Finally figured out a grocery hack that cut my bill by $40 a week
I was spending way too much at the store, like over $150 every trip. My friend in Austin told me to try planning meals around the weekly meat markdowns. So last Tuesday, I bought marked-down chicken and pork, then built my whole list from there. It felt weird at first, but it actually worked. Has anyone else tried building a menu from the discount section?

Doesn't that just make you a slave to whatever random meat is on sale that day? I tried that and ended up with a fridge full of weird sausages and a sad lack of vegetables. It feels like you're saving money, but you're really just letting the store decide what you eat. I'd rather plan meals I actually want and then hunt for deals on those items.

Check the flyers before you go and build a flexible list. If chicken is cheap, you know you can make tacos, a stir fry, or just grill it. That way the sale guides you but you still have a plan for meals you'll like, so you avoid the weird sausage trap.

My cousin in Phoenix showed me how to do this with the marked-down veggies and fruit, not just meat. I grab whatever produce is about to go off, chop it all up, and freeze it for soups and stir-fries. It takes like an hour on Sunday, but I save a ton and still eat what I want. The key is having a few basic recipes that work with anything, so you're not stuck with weird sausages lol.
