Heads up: 'Buy now, pay later' plans are messing with my budget tracking

These services split purchases into installments, making it easy to lose track of total spending. I started logging all BNPL transactions in one place to stay on top of it, and it's already prevented me from overcommitting this month.

Isn't BNPL designed to simplify spending by spreading out costs? You have fixed payments scheduled. That predictability can actually tighten a budget. Managing it should be straightforward without extra logging systems.

@allen.cora, that predictability falls apart when you stack several BNPL plans. Just track them in a notes app or you'll miss a payment. Seen it happen too many times.

Tbh, the 'stack several BNPL plans' thing hits home. I once had three going at once and completely blanked on a payment because I trusted my memory. Like @garcia.paige said, you need to track them, but my notes app is a mess of random thoughts and grocery lists. For instance, I bought a new jacket on Afterpay, then a gaming chair on Klarna, and before I knew it, I was getting late fees because I forgot the jacket payment was due the same week as my phone bill. Honestly, it felt like playing financial whack-a-mole every month.

Predictability blinds you to BNPL's spending traps, @allen.cora.
