I quit using the envelope system in January and my grocery budget actually got tighter
For 3 years I pulled $140 cash every payday for groceries and whatever was left on Sunday was it, but I kept "borrowing" from the gas envelope by week 3 every single month. In January I switched to one debit card with a hard $140 limit set in the app, and for the first time since 2022 I have not gone over once in 5 months. Does anyone else feel like cash only works if you never touch it, or am I just bad at hiding envelopes from myself?
