Just realized I've been wasting $40 a month on unused subscription boxes

I finally cancelled that curated snack box I signed up for after a night shift last March because I was tired of shoving unopened bags of weird flavored chips into the back of my pantry. Has anyone else done the whole 'it's only $12' math and ended up with three separate subscriptions you ignore?

Those subscription boxes are actually a great deal if you think about the variety you get without having to hunt down new things yourself. The cost breaks down to like a dollar a day for a fun surprise that keeps your pantry interesting. Plus it saves you from buying a whole bag of something you might hate, so you end up wasting less money overall.

Yeah but you're still paying for a bunch of random stuff you might not even want. That's the bigger pattern I keep seeing with subscriptions and memberships and auto-ship everything. It's like companies figured out they can sell us the feeling of getting a surprise instead of just selling us the actual product we need. @emery290 I get the convenience angle, sure. But my wife signed up for one of those snack boxes and now we have a cabinet full of weird jerky flavors nobody eats. Feels like we traded one kind of waste for another.

But it's more like $12 a month, not a dollar a day. Math can trip you up sometimes.
