Lost my whole August spread to a leaky pen

I was at a coffee shop in Portland, using a new fountain pen on my weekly log. The ink bled through 12 pages, totally ruining my habit tracker and events. Anyone else had a favorite tool backfire on them like this?

Might be worth checking if that coffee shop had some kind of oil or residue on the table that messed with the pen's flow. I had a similar blowout once when I set my notebook on a damp counter at a bakery, the moisture made the ink spread like crazy through the pages. Could be a weird environmental factor nobody's thinking about, especially with specialty pens that act differently on any surface.

Honestly, I USED to totally blow off stuff like this, figured it was just bad ink or a defective pen. But you really got me rethinking that now. The idea of residual oil or something messing with the flow makes a LOT of sense, especially in a busy coffee shop where tables get wiped with who knows what. It explains why the same pen works perfect at home on a clean desk but then acts up somewhere else. I'm definitely going to be more careful about where I set my notebook down now, thats a solid catch.
