Lost $300 helping my cousin, she ghosted me after one bad week
Last summer my cousin Jessica asked me to co-sign a rental lease in Austin because her credit was shot. I put down the $300 deposit myself and promised the landlord I'd cover any gaps. Three months in she lost her job, skipped rent, and moved to Dallas without telling me. Now the landlord wants that $1,100 back and she won't answer my calls. Has anyone else been burned by a family member who swore they'd pay you back?

That money is gone, plain and simple. Family will do you dirty faster than strangers sometimes. You could take her to small claims court but good luck collecting from someone who dodges your calls. Honestly, your best move is to cut your losses and never co-sign for anyone again. Learned that lesson the hard way myself, cost me a lot more than $300.
