Picked Facebook ads over Google ads for my landscaping business
I run a small landscaping company in Phoenix and had to choose between a $500 Facebook ad budget and a $500 Google ad budget last spring. I went with Facebook because I heard it was better for targeting local homeowners. After 3 months I got about 15 leads from Facebook, mostly people asking about pricing but not booking. My buddy who does tree trimming told me to try Google ads instead. I swapped my budget over in July and got 22 calls that turned into 7 actual jobs. The difference was night and day for me. Has anyone else had better luck with one platform over the other for a service business?
Yeah that "people asking about pricing but not booking" part is basically every Facebook ad I've ever run for service stuff. Seems like people scroll past and click without really needing the work done, but Google catches em when they're actually hunting for someone to hire.
Oh man, you totally just flipped a switch in my brain with that. I used to think Facebook ads were the way to go for everything, like hey more eyes means more customers right? But now I'm sitting here realizing that's not how it works at all. People on Facebook are just browsing, procrastinating, you know, killing time between memes and baby pictures. They click your ad because it's there, not because they actually need your service. Google though, that's where the real hunters are, people typing in "plumber near me" at 2 AM because their pipe burst. I never really thought about the difference between casual curiosity and actual need before, but now it makes total sense why those Facebook clicks never turn into bookings.
