Why does nobody talk about how useless most email funnels are?

Spent 6 months building this elaborate 5-email sequence for my landscaping business in Denver, and my open rates were garbage the whole time. Finally a client at a networking event told me she just deleted every email from companies she didn't recognize on sight. How do you actually get people to open your emails when they have zero reason to trust you yet?

Didn't someone write a blog post about how cold emails are basically just spam until you establish some kind of connection first? Seems like the whole funnel thing works better once people already know who you are.

Hmm @hannah320 but what if the connection never happens, do you just give up then...

Oh come on lol is it really that deep though? Like yeah cold emails are annoying but people act like it's some huge scandal when it's just normal marketing stuff. @hannah320 hit on something real though - you gotta warm people up first, maybe through a free guide or a quick video tip before you drop the whole funnel on them. But also, your subject line probably sucked if nobody opened it, that's on you not the funnel concept itself. Landscaping in Denver is super local too, so try something way shorter like a two email thing that leads with a specific problem like "your lawn is dying in this drought" and see if that changes anything.
