My uncle told me to skip the $120 boot and buy the $300 pair, and I hated hearing it
Two years ago my uncle Dale, who worked concrete in Phoenix for 22 years, told me point blank that I was wasting money on cheap work boots and should just buy the good pair once. I rolled my eyes because $300 felt insane for boots when I was making $19 an hour. So I went through two $120 pairs in about 14 months, both blew out at the toe seam and the soles went slick by month 7. Then I finally got the pair he pointed at, and I'm on month 19 with them, resoleable, and the uppers still look fine. The math is dumb obvious in hindsight, I spent around $240 on junk plus gas driving to replace them, versus $300 once. When I told Dale he just laughed and said he tried to tell me. Now I feel like a clown defending cheap gear to anyone who'll listen. Has anyone else gotten stubborn about a price and had a family member turn out totally right?
