Hot take: that particle board stat from the Woodworking Show in Atlanta got me checking every cabinet I own
Stopped by a rep's booth at the Woodworking Show in Atlanta last month and he mentioned that most big box cabinets use particle board that swells up to 3 times its size once water sits on it for a few hours. I went home and pulled the bottom shelf out of my kitchen sink base and sure enough, the whole thing was mush around an old leak I never caught. How often do you guys pop a shelf out just to check for hidden water damage before it turns into a full rebuild?
