Twenty years of cutting dados and I just found out I was squaring them wrong

I was watching this old Finnish cabinetmaker's video out of boredom last week, and he flipped his square around to check the reference edge. I've been using the same framing square since 2003 and never once thought to flip it. Has anyone else had a basic habit blown open by a random YouTube rabbit hole?

Twenty years and you never checked the other edge? That's on you, not the square.

Yeah, 'that's on you' hits hard, I felt that. I've been there with a different tool where I assumed it was fine for ages and finally tested the other side and it was totally off. Ended up buying a cheap digital angle finder, now I check everything twice before making a cut.

And yeah @ward.kim maybe it is on me, but I've been doing the same thing with my combination square for years. What finally worked was marking the good side with a tiny dot of nail polish so I don't have to think about it ever again.
