Pro tip: I switched from crimping after the connector to crimping on the dielectric, and I'm not sure it's better
For 6 years I did it the old way: strip, slide the connector on, then squeeze the crimp ring right behind the connector body. Now I've been setting the crimp on the dielectric instead, pushing the tool about a quarter inch further up, and my return trips on bad fittings have gone from maybe 3 a month to almost zero. But here's where I'm torn. The old method is faster for me and the fittings feel tighter in my hand, while the new way takes an extra second and a guy on my crew swears the dielectric gets crushed and it will fail later. I'm at 400 fittings on the new way and nothing has come back, but that could just be luck. What do you all do, crimp at the connector or out on the white? And has anyone actually seen a crushed dielectric fail after a couple of years in the field?
