TIL a guy in Kansas City said he runs his own coax tester before every single install because of one bad batch
Was grabbing lunch at a supply house near Kansas City last week and a tech with about 20 years in said his shop got a bad run of coax in 2019 that cost them 3 truck rolls in one day per job. He said now he keeps a cheap tester in his bag and checks the reel before he even pulls it, takes him about 30 seconds. Do you all test your cable before running it or just trust the spool?
Laughed at this because I'm the guy who trusts the spool every time and then stands in a customer's yard looking like a fool when the signal is dead. Spent a whole afternoon rewiring a run last summer before it hit me that the cable itself was the problem, not my connectors. Thirty seconds with a tester sure beats my two hour method of blaming everything else first. Guess I should finally stop being stubborn and just toss one in the bag.
