Bought a $95 set of JIS screwdrivers after stripping one more Sony cover screw, and I could cry
Honestly I put off buying real JIS screwdrivers for way too long because I figured my Phillips set was close enough. Big mistake. I was working on a Sony A7 shutter replacement about three weeks ago and rounded out two of the tiny cover screws so bad I had to drill one. That job nearly turned into a disaster and I lost a whole afternoon on it. So I finally dropped $95 on a proper JIS set from a shop in San Jose, and the very first camera I opened with them, a Nikon FM2, every single screw broke loose like it was nothing. No cam out, no shavings, no cussing. If you're still using Phillips drivers on Japanese cameras, just stop and spend the money, it pays for itself in one saved body. What's the one tool you guys waited way too long to buy?
