Traded my down bag for synthetic after a wet night in Shenandoah
I always swore by down, figured the weight savings was worth it. Last May my bag got soaked through a tent seam in Shenandoah and I shivered till dawn. Anyone else switch out after one bad night, or stick with down no matter what?
Oh man, that first wet shiver is a rite of passage we all hate! I had the same moment on a rainy trip in the Smokies, woke up feeling like a drowned squirrel wrapped in a cold towel. Switched to synthetic the next week and honestly, my pack got a little heavier but my panic level dropped a ton. These days I only break out the down bag for car camping where I can sleep in the back of my truck with the hatch shut. I still keep a fleece liner as backup though, just in case my tent decides to betray me again.
