Just checked the campus speech policy and it bans 47 specific phrases I didn't know about

I hit the 47 mark counting banned phrases in our student handbook and one of them is 'safe space' which feels like it defeats the whole point of having a discussion group, has anyone else actually sat down and counted what's on their own campus list?

Our student union posted their list and it had 52 phrases which I thought was a lot until I read through them. "Safe space" being on there actually makes some sense to me though. The term gets used to shut down arguments people don't want to hear, like a shield instead of an invitation to talk. I've seen people say "this is supposed to be a safe space" right before they refuse to answer a tough question about their own views. The list probably has some genuinely dumb bans on it, but banning the phrase "safe space" might be trying to protect actual discussion from people who weaponize the concept.

Banning words so people don't misuse them is like banning hammers because someone used one to break a window. Next they'll ban "discussion" because people use it to argue.

So you want people saying whatever they feel like would be fine.
