Unpopular opinion: the week my school kicked a pro-life group off the quad was the quietest protest week all semester
I go to a big state school in Ohio and last October the admin made a group move their display behind a building because of a "security concern," and then nobody showed up to counter-protest because nobody could find them. I only know this happened because a friend texted me the spot, and there were maybe 6 people there total. Did anyone else's school do the same move this fall, or is that just a Midwest thing?
Man, moving a group because of a vague "security concern" is just a polite way to shut them down without saying so. That quiet week probably wasn't a win for free speech, it just meant the school found a way to make the whole thing disappear. I get why that feels calm, but I'd worry about what it means the next time a group you actually agree with gets moved behind a building.
