TIL I hit 500 days of no soda and it actually changed how I feel about those "off limits" jokes
I hit 500 days without drinking soda last Tuesday, and it surprised me because I never planned to quit. I just stopped after a friend said "you laugh at diet soda jokes but drink the real stuff every day." That got me thinking about what we choose to laugh at versus what we actually do. At my job, people make jokes about cutting sugar, but nobody really follows through. So has anyone else hit a weird milestone that made you rethink a joke you used to tell?

Does it ever seem like half the jokes people make are just them talking themselves out of trying something new? @emmam89 that's a good point about people cracking jokes as a cover, its wild how many "i could never" jokes are really just "i don't want to deal with the habit".

@emmam89 what made you finally stop instead of just laughing it off like everyone else?

Actually 500 days is like 1 year and 4.5 months not exactly 500 days from last Tuesday but close enough i guess. I hit 400 days of no soda a few months back and it did make me realize how much I used to laugh at those "I could never give up soda" jokes at work. People would crack up about giving up sugar but then chug a mountain dew at lunch. I was one of them until i just stopped one day. Now i notice how many of those jokes are just cover for not wanting to try.
