My local deli's signature sandwich sparked a huge online fight

They named it after a historical figure with a complicated past, and now people are calling for a boycott. Supporters say it's just a sandwich and shouldn't be politicized, but critics argue it's insensitive and glorifies a bad legacy. The owner is stuck between changing the name or standing his ground. How do you judge cases like this in the food world?

Reading about "just a sandwich and shouldn't be politicized" reminds me of my friend's hot dog stand. He named one after a old mayor and had to change it after local news picked up the story.

Yeah @paulw53 that happens so fast, like my neighbor painted a mural on his garage and someone called it a political statement. Now he's just got plain gray siding because the local Facebook group wouldn't drop it. Stuff gets tangled up so easily these days.

My buddy's cafe had to take down a "local and proud" sign because someone said it was anti-globalism. Now the wall's just bare brick, lol.

My brother's brewery had a similar thing with a flag mural. He put up a small sign next to it explaining the local history it represented, just a few lines on cardstock. It stopped the complaints cold. People just want to feel heard sometimes.
