Waited 45 minutes at a coffee shop in Portland before choosing to walk out instead of engaging with a barista who was ranting about a customer's politics

I picked my peace over a $7 latte and now I'm wondering if I just validated the whole cancel culture cycle by silently leaving instead of saying something, has anyone else bailed on a local spot over this kind of tension?

$7 for a latte is kinda steep even without the drama. Portland baristas can be intense but that's not really cancel culture, that's just bad customer service. You didn't owe them a debate.

Is it really that serious though? I mean yeah seven bucks is a lot for coffee, but people pay more for fancy cocktails and don't bat an eye. The barista might have been annoying, but that's not exactly a cancel-worthy offense. It just sounds like a bad day for everyone involved. Maybe the latte was worth the lecture if it was made right. Seems like we're all just looking for reasons to get worked up these days.

Right? Had a barista once lecture me for five minutes about my oat milk choice...
