Vent: I stopped watching pilots and started reading episode 4 recaps, and it saved me 14 hours last month
I used to get burned by shows that had a great pilot and fell apart by week three, so I changed my whole system in January. Now I skip the pilot completely and read a recap of episode 4 instead, because by then the cast has settled and the writers stop showing off. I did this with six new shows over the last month and dropped four of them without watching a single minute, which is about 14 hours I got back. The two I kept were both shows where episode 4 recappers were complaining the plot slowed down, and that is a good sign to me because it means there is an actual plot. My buddy in Columbus says that is a dumb way to pick shows, and maybe it is, but I am not sitting through another mystery box that goes nowhere. Does anyone else judge a show by the middle episodes before committing, or am I the only one who does this?
