Got fired over a Slack message and the one thing that actually helped my case
I got let go from a marketing job in Portland last March over a joke I made in a private Slack channel, and HR never even pulled the full thread before deciding. What worked was asking for the complete export of that channel under my state's records rules, which showed 4 other people said worse and got nothing. I sent that to an employment lawyer and we settled in about 6 weeks. Has anyone else gotten HR to hand over the full chat log, or did they stonewall you too?
When you asked for the export, did HR push back at first or just hand it over? I'm curious if they tried the whole "that's private company info" excuse before giving in.
