Found something true about my weakest skill after 11 years of faking it

I used to think networking meant talking to anyone at a conference bar until 1am. Turns out my best career move last spring came from a 3 minute intro at a coffee shop in Austin. I stopped pitching myself and just asked the guy about HIS hiring process for 2 straight minutes. People kept telling me to follow up fast, but I never did until I realized the follow up is just confirming one small detail they mentioned. That detail got me a second call, then an offer 6 weeks later. Has anyone else found that the WORST part of their job, like networking, actually had a super boring fix?
