Chatted with a 30-year framer last week who said my mitre saw setup was all wrong
He pointed out I was measuring from the wrong side of the blade and it hit me that I've been wasting time recutting for years anyone else get humbled by an old-timer like that?

Think @drew_hart4 had a similar moment to yours but yeah I see that old timer thing a little different. Sometimes those guys are stuck in their ways and don't realize newer tools work different. I had a 40 year vet tell me my digital angle finder was overcomplicating things and I should just "feel" the angle with a bevel square. Tried it his way for a week and wasted more material than I ever did with my digital tool. So while I respect the experience, I don't think every piece of advice from an old timer is gospel. They grew up on different tools and methods, and some of that stuff just doesn't apply as much anymore.

My buddy borrowed my saw once, came back with a different blade guard. Old guy at his shop fixed it without saying a word.
