Walked into a restoration project in Detroit and saw the worst framing job I've ever come across
I went to check out an old house on the east side of Detroit last Friday for a possible reno job. The owner wanted me to give a quote on fixing up a few walls. But as soon as I looked at the framing in the basement, I knew it was bad news. Someone had used 2x4s that were split in half and nailed them together with random sized gaps. There were even some studs that weren't even touching the bottom plate. I counted 8 major issues in just one corner of the room. Has anyone else walked into a project and found work so bad you just had to walk away?

My uncle once hired a guy to build a deck and the dude just nailed the boards straight into the ground with no footings. We came back a month later and the whole thing was leaning like a half built roller coaster. Some folks really should not be allowed near a hammer and nails. I bet that basement framing came from a guy who watched a few YouTube videos and figured he was ready.

Leaning like a half built roller coaster" is the best description ever. My deck guy forgot the joists.

Did he forget the joists or just forget how physics works?
