A bank teller in Columbus told me to stop tapping my card for coffee and it stuck
Six weeks ago I was at my credit union branch on High St in Columbus arguing about a $4 fee, and the teller pulled up my account and pointed at all the tiny card taps. She said each one gets logged with a time and place, and asked if I really wanted 40 little records a month of when I bought a muffin. I switched to pulling out $60 in cash every Sunday, and my spending on snacks dropped by about $30 a week just because handing over a bill feels different. I also asked one store if they sell my purchase data and the guy said yeah, through the card processor, which I never thought about. My bank's own app now shows me a map of every place I tapped last month, and it caught me off guard seeing my whole week laid out like that. Has anyone else noticed their card app tracks locations down to the block, and did you change how you pay because of it?
