I stopped using my debit card everywhere after a guy at a coffee shop told me his bank tracked every single purchase for targeted ads

He said his bank sold his spending data to companies that then sent him coupons for things he bought regularly, and it freaked me out enough that now I mostly use cash for small stuff like gas station snacks.

My friend had something similar happen. She used her debit card at a pet store twice in one month and suddenly started getting ads for premium dog food on her phone. Then she got a coupon in the mail from a local pet store she never even shopped at before. That really creeped her out because she has a cat, not a dog. She switched to cash for most things after that and said it feels way better not being watched. It kind of makes you wonder what else they're doing with your info.

My buddy used his card at a vape shop one time and got a coupon in the mail for a brand of vape juice he never even bought. Creeped him out so bad he started keeping cash on him. Now he won't use his card anywhere unless it's for rent or something big.
