My bank froze my account for buying a plane ticket to Denver

I booked a flight to Denver last month for $287. The payment went through, then my entire account got locked. Called the bank. They said it was 'unusual activity'. I was on hold for 45 minutes. Had to verify my identity three different ways. Learned that in a cashless system, they can shut off your money anytime they want. Makes you wonder who's really in control. Has your bank ever flagged a normal purchase and left you stranded?

Honestly this stuff is getting way too common. Feels like every little thing sets off the fraud alarms these days, buying gas in the wrong town, a big grocery run. The whole system is built on this idea of total control, where your own money is just a number they can pause on a whim. Makes that cash under the mattress look less crazy by the minute. You're right to feel like you're not really in charge of your own wallet anymore.

That's why I keep some cash on hand.

But is it really that bad? I mean, I get what roberts.leo is saying about fraud alerts being annoying, but my card just gets a text and I click yes. It's not like they lock it forever. Keeping a little cash is smart, but acting like the bank is out to get you feels like a stretch. Most of the time it's just a computer seeing something weird.
