Picked the cheap mandoline over the pro one, still have all my fingertips

Last Thursday I had to replace my old mandoline and stood in the supply store weighing the $35 plastic one against the $120 stainless model. I went cheap because my prep budget was already blown on crab for a special, figured I only needed it for a week of potato chips. First shift it wobbled on the cutting board and the guard slipped off twice, almost took a knuckle off on the third batch of cucumbers. My stainless thumb guard from a previous job saved me, but now I'm ordering the expensive one and eating the cost myself. Anyone else ever gamble on a budget tool during a busy week and regret it before service ended?
