Almost lost a $900 liner job because I skipped one step on a 30 foot brick stack
Last Tuesday I was wrapping up a reline on a 1920s house in Akron and the homeowner kept hovering, asking about every little thing. I pulled the new stainless liner up through the top, secured it, and was about to pack it in when something felt off, so I ran a light down and saw the old clay flue tiles had crumbled about 12 feet down. If I had just capped it and left, that debris would have sat right on top of the new liner and blocked the draft within a month. I spent an extra hour vacuuming out the chunks and re-checking the whole run before I sealed anything. Has anyone else had a homeowner's questions actually save them from a callback like that?
