I used to blow off creosote logs until a customer in Garyville made me look at my own flue
I always figured those $20 creosote sweeping logs were a gimmick and just told folks to book a real brush job. Then a retired firefighter named Ray in Garyville had me out to his place and asked me to scope his chimney after he burned one. I ran my camera down and there it was, a good quarter inch of glaze softened up enough that my standard 8 inch poly brush knocked it loose in about 15 minutes flat. He said he'd been burning one log a week all winter and his stage 3 buildup never got past a light dusting. I still won't sell them as a replacement for a real sweep but I started mentioning them to anyone burning green wood or unseasoned oak. Any of you run into a case where a log made your job harder instead of easier?
