Rant: My landlord in Chicago finally showed the lease audit sheet after 14 months of me guessing
I moved into a 1 bedroom in Logan Square in August of last year. Rent was $1,650 and I figured that was just the market. Every month I paid it without asking questions. Last week my landlord slid a paper under my door because the heat went out and he wanted to apologize. It was a full unit breakdown for the whole building, and my line showed a base rent of $1,340 plus $310 for a parking spot I do not own and never used. I never got a car. I never got a bike rack spot. I walked to the Blue Line every day for over a year. Turns out the leasing agent added it in 2022 when the spot was empty and nobody ever took it off. My landlord is refunding 3 months of it, which is $930, and I am actually happy about that part. But I keep doing the math on the other 11 months. Has anyone fought a lease line item like this and gotten the full amount back, or do I just take the 3 months and move on?
